If a person born before 1 January 1983 outside the UK and his/her mother was born in the UK or a former colony that person can acquire British citizenship by registration or obtain “Right of Abode” stamp in your passport. Before 1 January 1983 British citizenship could not be passed on through female line. Children born before 1983 can now acquire British citizenship by registration application to the Home Office. Child Registration as a British Citizen
Children who have automatically acquired British citizenship do not need to be registered. There are two ways a child can automatically be a British citizen without needing to register. A child born in the UK on or after 13 January 2010 whose parents are not born British citizens and were not settled in the UK will have an entitlement to register if either parent becomes a member of the UK armed forces.
A child born in the UK, who has lived first 10 years of his/her life in the UK without any significance absences and child could not claim citizenship through parents status.
British citizenship doesn’t transcend to the second generation born abroad. Those children born to parents who became British by descent can also be registered their children if they can demonstrate their residence in the UK prior to the child’s birth.
